Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning may be used for reducing the appearance of crater-like features left by severe acne. By skimming away the surrounding skin, the noticeable difference between the area levels is evened out.

Dermaplaning involves using a medical blade at an angle to exfoliate the topical layerDermaplaning of dead cells called corneocytes and fine vellus hair (peach fuzz).  This resurfacing allows the smooth, underlying area of clear, undamaged skin to emerge and prevents dead skin buildup that can make small facial wrinkles and acne scars appear larger.  It may cause some redness, especially in someone with sensitive skin, but this subsides in an hour or so.

Dermaplaning is best used in combination with aesthetic procedures such as chemical peels, photorejuvenation and microdermabrasion.

Why Dermaplane?

  • It removes outer layer of dead skin cells
  • It enhances penetration of skin care products
  • It prepares skin for additional aesthetic procedures

Pros: If you have dull, dry, dehydrated and or congested skin, it is often because you have a surface barrier of dead cells that are not allowing topical products to penetrate. At the same time, impurities from within are trapped and, as well, underlying new cells are unable to surface. This results in the lackluster appearance. Once your skin is dermaplaned, it accelerates and aids in the sloughing off of the dead skin, that barrier is removed and the skin begins to respond to the skin products being used. Also, it is able to expel the impurities from within creating a healthier and revitalized skin.

Cons: It is generally not a good idea to have a dermaplane if you have highly sensitive skin, active rosacea or pustular and oozing skin. Also if you are a diabetic patient, you may not be a good candidate for dermaplaning because of possible problems with healing in the unlikely event of getting nicked from the blade. If you have an auto-immune disease, you would need to get written permission from your physician before we are able to perform the service.
